On The Eve of the Final Issue of Y The Last Man Not a Movie Adaptation, But a Trilogy of Movies!
This is the week when the conclusion, the final, the last ever issue of Y The Last Man hits the new arrivals rack. My staff and I couldn't be more excited to see how this amazing series ends, but at the same time we're downright shell-shocked by the notion that such a wonderful staple of our monthly reading enjoyment is about to come to an end.
What are we going to do without Y in our lives?!
But trust the always divine pop culture icon Whitney Matheson to brighten even the darkest clouds and make our hearts soar with an exclusive scoop of delightful new Y the movie adaptation news!
You heard it right, mi amigos, three movies. Go check out Ms. Matheson's end of series tribute in the pages of USAToday, with words from series author Brian K. Vaughan, along with the smartest man in comics Tom Spurgeon, and also the juicy-secret-dropping Y the movie adaptation director D.J. Caruso. You'll be glad you did.
Or for the digitally inclined, you can read it here:
Why, oh 'Y,' must 'Last Man' end?
This fantastic news really brightens our day and has us looking forward to the arrival of this final issue even more! Do drop us an email to reserve your copy of this last issue, and for those of you who will be requiring a post Y the Last Man support group (I know I will) we will be having our first meeting this Wednesday night at this location.Labels: Brian K Vaughan, comics, movies, Whitney Matheson

Not-Yet-Announced Mouse Guard Game Get a Sneak Peek @ Dreamation Con
You're probably like me, and you like hearing the pre-announcement rumblings about nifty comic-related stuff before they hit the news sites. If so, this one is for you.
My staff and I are all folks who have been enthusiasticly on-board with everything Mouse Guard for quite a while now and some of you might remember we even surprised one of our regulars with a gift of some original Mouse Guard art back when the series was just getting started out. So you'd better believe we pricked up our ears when we heard word of a boardgame devoted to this great series.Check out this post on game designer Don Corcoran's website for the few details that have been leaked on this. The game is scheduled for an August 2008 release (which is no doubt a GenCon launch). And those of you who want to get an early sneak peek at the game before it's released might be quite interested in a little event scheduled for this year's Dreamation 2008... the " MouseGuard Adventures Playtest." This definitely sounds to me like the perfect merchandising swag for the book, especially considering Mouse Guard creator David Petersen's well known love of boardgames. Can't wait to hear more details as we get closer to launch! Labels: David Petersen, games
When Snacks Come With Comics Oh, What A Wonderful World!
Here at the Isotope we love the artform so much that when we're picking out our preferred snacks to munch on for the afternoon and see a label that says "Comic Inside!" it's clear what we'll be dropping the hard-earned American dollars on.
And today's champion of comic-related snacking goes to Everybody's Nuts! Pistachios which came with the following strip.
Ah yes, the world will be a beautiful place when all snacks come with comics!Labels: comics, ridiculous

Let It Rain That Cold SF Rain... San Francisco Noir Film Fest
While everyone else does whatever they can to avoid the bone-chilling cold San Francisco rain this weekend, those in the know are going to be turning up their trenchcoat and venturing out after dark for a deadly dose of hard boiled heroes, nihilistic thugs, ordinary people over the line, dirty deals gone wrong, and the kind of femme fatales that you just know aren't any good for you... but can't help but get mixed up with anyway.
That's right, it's time for you to once again attend Noir City, San Francisco's world-famous festival celebrating the greatest noir cinema ever made. Featuring an amazing selection black and white flicks never released on DVD classics of yesteryear, including Dangerous Crossing, the delightfully named Hangover Square, a San Francisco classic thriller D.O.A., the brain-teasing murder yarn you won't forget The 3rd Voice (with the tag-line "Spurned, she became mistress of the double-double-cross!" how can you go wrong?), one of my personal favorite lost films The Story of Molly X, and a man-do-I-want-to-see-this film that's been hailed as a "noir version of It’s a Wonderful Life" Repeat Performance with a post screening onstage interview with pulse-quickening star Joan Leslie herself!
Ten days. 20 films. No happy endings.
Now doesn't that sound like the perfect complement to those chilly and rainy San Francisco nights?

We've Got a Reason to Celebrate It's New Comics Day Today!
One of the best things about owning a comics store is the weekly mad rush of new comics day. I love the pulse-pounding hyperactivity amongst the staff as we rapidly set up the shop with a glorious variety of everything new so that we can excite and delight our first guests of the day at 11am. And I don't know about you, but despite those days of vacationing bliss, I always want my comics arriving on Wednesdays. So I sure am happy today!
Despite Monday being a holiday for many, our trusty comics delivering folks at Diamond and UPS have combined forces and are soldiering on through to put new books in our hot little hands today, and giving us all a reason to celebrate. Check out a list of the sexy new releases here and come on in and celebrate my favorite weekly highlight with us, won't you?Labels: holiday shipping

Move Over Superstars of Yesteryear Basie S. Rocks The Comics World
Most of you already know all about the new ongoing series The Masked Mutant by comic creator to watch out for Basie S. What you might not know is that since the great reviews started hitting the book has been building serious indy buzz. And each subsequent printing of these books have been flying off the shelves!
With anticipation of the at-the-printers-as-we-speak second issue building, Basie has proven once again that 7 year old know-how beats out "big two" business acumen and has ordered his publishing and production crew to give the people what they want... and get this wildfire hit back in print once again.
And in a publicity move that shocked San Francisco's beautiful Hayes Valley district, this new print run was delivered not by the typical official armed courier Basie S. is famous for... but by the Lucha Libre star of the book... the actual Masked Mutant himself! We here at the Isotope were thrilled to get to meet this larger than life hero!
Comic creators of the industry should take note of the impressive marketing wizardry and great business sense of this rising young talent. No doubt these fourth printings of The Masked Mutant #1 are going to be selling out just as fast as the previous printings but we sure are happy to have them in stock right now. Drop us an email to reserve your copy before they do! Labels: Basie S, comics, lucha

The Pulse-Pounding Adventures of an Overworked Email In-Box
I've been lighting up my email in and out boxes like fireworks on the 4th of July for the past weeks putting the behind the scenes touches on a really jaw-dropping series of in-store events here at the shop. You've heard_about these already, right? Okay good! And now with everything humming along nicely it's time to get back to entertaining y'all here on the Isotope Communique...
To start off, here's a nice note and special something that showed up in my mailbox from Trevor V. that really made my day. I'm big in comics, baby!
Please consider this a small token of appreciation for the excellent customer service I received while visiting your store. This hi-res image is comprised of 6,888 Strangers In Paradise covers. Each cover was used at least once.
