British Police Consider "Instant Justice" The Slippery Slope Starts Here
Judge Dredd, the cautionary science fiction comic that began in 1977 which depicted a violent world of the future where the police force is empowered to dispense instantaneous justice on the city's citizens, took one step closer to reality today as British police announced that they are in talks to give police the authority to skip the courts and "impose instant justice for anti-social activities."
The proposed changes include bureaucracy-less powers banning teenagers from city centers, gangs from meeting and gathering, and authorizing the ability for police to seize and crush cars driven by those repeatedly driving without registration, insurance, or license. Now we've read enough comics to know what comes next, and unless someone's going to tell us the world is going to drawn by Ian Gibson, Brian Bolland, or Brett Ewins... somebody needs to get some comics to these people, quick!
