On behalf of the entire Isotope staff I wanted to send out a letter of appreciation to all of you who attended our events over the weekend. Telling you we had a blast hanging out with all of you doesn't even begin to cover it, and the staff and I have been gushing with love for our guests (honored and otherwise) who helped us make our first Grant Morrison and Eric Powell in-stores truly monumental and special. Nothing could be more rewarding to my staff and I than to see so many people who really understand and appreciate the casually intimate atmosphere that Isotope events are built upon. And for me personally, it's about as good as life can possibly get to see so many of you having such a great time celebrating two of my favorite comic creators and getting an opportunity to get to meet so many really cool people who love comics as much as I do.
Friday night was an event that I will never forget and one that absolutely lived up to its title of "Grant Morrison's International Guide to Living Fabulously." Cos celebrating the good things in life in the most fabulous manner possible is exactly what we did! The house was packed with interesting and exciting folks who helped us make the whole event an evening verging on utter perfection, and I know Grant and Kristan felt the same. Grant was, as everyone can tell you, thrilled to get to talk comics with you all and was having what was quite obviously a fantastic time. As expected, I didn't get to talk to Grant very much during the event, but I did get to hear him telling some really funny behind the scenes stories, and I know many of you got to hear some juicy details about some of his upcoming projects. Those of you who were lucky enough to score one of the 200 Grant Morrison pint glasses that we had that night can give your selves a pat on the back for being so darn brilliant, because aside from the few I set aside for our staff, our families, and for promotional "thank you" gifts... those suckers are gone! I can tell you from talking to them on Sunday that Grant and Kristan were completely blown away by the love you all lavished upon them that night... and thanks to all of you. those two had such a great time we can certainly expect to see our new friends from Glasgow returning to the Isotope soon!
Saturday night saw the legendary "Eric Powell's Monster Mash-Up" with DJ SamSupa, horror hostess supreme Ms. Monster, and the author/artist of THE GOON... Eric Powell himself! This event had a crazy manic energy that was just infectious, and just like the previous night everyone was really excited to get to hang out with our honored guest. I about shed a tear when Eric rolled in the door with his awesome Dark Horse Comics crew to a thunderous and never-ending round of applause which left Eric with an ear to ear grin... and maybe just a little overwhelmed. This was the night that the featured guests of WonderCon showed up in force and it seemed like everywhere I looked there was another creator of some comic that I love having a great time at the Isotope with all of us and all of you. The gallery featuring Powell's original art pages was certainly the talk of the night, and I can't tell you how many times I heard one of you tell Eric how much you all love and appreciate what he does. Once DJ SamSupa started spinning the mashups the roof practically blew off the place, with so much bootie shaking it quite literally wore the industrial strength paint off our floor. Also quite literally, by this time the ratio of ladies to gentlemen skewed pretty drastically to four-to-one, which Eric seemed pretty happy about, but makes me think I should try to make sure I promote my next Eric Powell event to a few more men (laugh)! Eric's pals from Dark Horse Comics were blown away by the awesome atmosphere and night DJ SamSupa, Ms. Monster, my staff, and most especially all of you helped to make... and for that I couldn't be more appreciative. Those of you who were out of town that weekend should fear not, because I have it on excellent authority that Mister Powell will also be returning to the Isotope in the not-so-distant future.
I know, I know... I'm gushing here! But, man, I just couldn't be happier have gotten to have such a great weekend celebrating the wonderful world of comics with you all. I'll be assembling the Grant Morrison and Eric Powell videos over the next couple weeks for your on-line watching pleasure so if any of you have video clips or photos of yourselves, your friends, or our special guests from the events that you'd like to be in the respective videos please send them my way. I'd love to make these videos as representative of the fun time we all had this last weekend as possible, and that means it includes all of you. Send those to james@isotopecomics or drop of a cd or dvd at the shop.
And again, on behalf of myself, the Isotope staff, and all our guests... thank you.
